School Sports NT and NT Cricket: Concerns and Questions Unanswered

School Sports NT will not be fielding an U15 side in this year’s School Sports Australia Cricket Championship, scheduled for late August/September at Harrup Park in Queensland. Darwin Cricket News & Scores has reached out to both NT Cricket and School Sports NT to verify the reasons for the withdrawal. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that NT Cricket is unable to support the side due to the timing of the event. If this is accurate, it marks the second pathway side (NT NICC XI) in less than six months that has been dropped without a prior public statement from the governing body. Additionally, NT Cricket remains silent on the status and future of the Strike League and the NT NICC XI.

Tribunal Process and Club Support

In further developments, NT Cricket appears unable to fulfil the duties required of the Club & Competitions Manager with umpires submitting reports. This role was not meant to be dealing with the Tribunal, rather delegating sub committees to complete designated roles. In this instance it would Disciplinary Panel with appointed commissioners as per the DDCC rules 3.0. Allegedly there have been at least two reported matters from recent fixtures that will not be attended to due to NT Cricket not having either appointed a Disciplinary Panel or engaged the Disciplinary Panel to perform their role. From our understanding, NT Cricket has not reached out to clubs to form a temporary/volunteer administrator to manage ongoing club cricket affairs, nor has it explained why the appointed commissioners aren’t completing their roles.

Disconnect and Growing Frustration

The ongoing issues add to the cricket community's frustration in the Territory. Rumours suggest that behind closed doors NT Cricket's administrator has expressed a lack of desire to advance local cricket competitions, exacerbating the disconnect between the cricket community and the association.
