On Monday 29th July, 2024, it was the 10 year anniversary of Phil Hughes smashing 202 not out against South Africa A in a List A Series held in Darwin in 2014. The double century came up on the last ball of the innings with a six over square leg towards the 13th Fairway of Darwin Golf Club. Hughes became the first male Australian to score a double century in List A cricket and the second behind Belinda Clark who scored a double century against the Netherlands in women's ODI almost two decades earlier.
This was arguably one of the best knocks seen at the ground and had a host of cricketers from the series who have gone on to prove themselves at international level or higher. This is a piece of history that should be in the spotlight and remembered in Territory cricket.
