Most Memorable Moments Count Down for 2023 - Number 3

The 2023 most memorable moments count has reached number three and with it, the Darwin and District Cricket Competition saw the first one day double where Nightcliff Cricket Club won the Firsts and Seconds One Day Grand Final. With team effort in both finals, the Ones winning by four wickets with three overs to spare, a superb bowling effort to restrict Waratah to 189, Caelan Maladay the stand out with 4 for 36, while the top six all got starts in the chase, Douwtjie Hoogenboezem top scoring at the top with 50.

In the Seconds it was a much closer affair, with the match coming down to the last ball. Batting first against Darwin, Byron Gale 74 and Nick Wheeler 49 put on a 100 stand for the second wicket and were on track for a commanding total until Eagle veteran Greg Brautigam rocked through the middle order. The Tigers bowled out for 195 with almost three overs still to be bowled.

In response Darwin looked in good control, above the run rate and starts from Blake Troy and Jake Munday but both departed short only a few short of their 50's. However the runs continued nicely before a match changing runout and wayward shot with about 30 to get and seven overs to go, got them back in the game. Tight bowling to tail end saw the pressure pile up and last over requirement of 11 to win. Joshi Saini bowling death lengths to hold his nerve and the Tigers win by two and their first One Day Premiership in the 2nds after being bridesmaids in the previous two.

On top of the One Day premierships, the Tigers took out the Club Championship and the Curators Award (third year in a row).
